When Do You Need an FRRO Address Change?

All foreign nationals registered with FRRO must notify the office of any change in their residential address within 14 days of the move. This includes:

• Moving to a new house/apartment in the same city
• Transferring to a different Indian city (e.g., from Delhi to Mumbai)
• Changing host/hotel/employer-provided accommodation
• Family relocation

Address Change vs. City Transfer

Address Change (Same City)

For moves within the same FRRO jurisdiction, we file a simple address change request. Most cases are processed within 3-7 working days.

City Transfer (Different City)

For moves to a different city, your FRRO file is transferred to the new local FRRO office. This is a longer process (15-30 days) and requires:

• No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from current FRRO
• New address proof in the destination city
• Updated employment/business proof (if applicable)
• Police verification at the new location

• Current FRRO registration certificate
• Original passport + visa copy
• New address proof (rental agreement, utility bill, hotel booking)
• NOC from current landlord/host (if applicable)
• New landlord/host ID proof (for residential moves)
• Employment letter (if change is job-related)
